We are introducing Stoa 2.0.0, a complete rebuild of Stoa with a new real-time collaborative editor, 1:1 compatibility that extends across the app, and security built into every layer 🔐
This release is more than a version update. It is a new foundation for Stoa: everything teams already rely on is carried forward into a consistent experience across the app, while collaboration, security, flexibility, and scale have all moved forward.
Security First 🔐
From the beginning of this rebuild, we made a deliberate choice: security would not be a feature added at the end. It would be part of the architecture itself.
Visibility and Access Control
With Stoa 2.0.0, every organization gets full visibility and control over its environment, including:
- Active session management
- Detailed audit logs
- Organizations with teams and RBAC roles
- SSO with SAML 2.0
- Automatic user provisioning and deprovisioning with SCIM
These capabilities are available to all organizations at no additional cost, because security should not be reserved for larger teams or higher plans.
Isolation by Default
Every organization in Stoa now receives its own isolated infrastructure by default.
That means each organization gets:
- Its own separate database
- Its own dedicated file bucket
- Its own isolated execution environment, where code is only executed for that organization's requests
This isolation-first model creates stronger boundaries between organizations and gives legal teams a more secure environment for sensitive work.
Organizations can also choose where their data is stored. They can select EU data residency for regulatory needs, or choose the nearest available data center for lower latency and better performance.
Encryption at Every Layer
All organization data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
Stoa 2.0.0 also goes further. Each organization is automatically assigned a unique encryption key, used to double-encrypt its most sensitive data before it is stored in the database.
This gives every organization an additional layer of protection without requiring extra setup, configuration, or infrastructure work.
Enterprise Security for Every Organization
Stoa 2.0.0 also brings identity management into the same security-first foundation.
Organizations can connect Stoa to their existing identity provider with SSO using SAML 2.0, and keep user access synchronized automatically with provisioning and deprovisioning through the SCIM protocol.
This helps teams manage access centrally, onboard users consistently, remove access when people leave, and keep their Stoa workspace aligned with their internal identity systems.
New Features ✨
Security is the foundation of Stoa 2.0.0, but this release also expands what legal teams can do day to day: real-time collaborative editing, more legal sources, more organization-level extensibility, and new workflows for common legal tasks.
More Legal Coverage
Stoa now supports legislation from eight additional countries beyond France 🇫🇷: Belgium 🇧🇪, Germany 🇩🇪, Luxembourg 🇱🇺, Morocco 🇲🇦, Portugal 🇵🇹, Spain 🇪🇸, Tunisia 🇹🇳, and the UAE 🇦🇪.
Stoa also includes major European Union legal sources 🇪🇺, including treaties, international agreements, GDPR, eIDAS, and other EU regulations.
These legal sources can be enabled directly from organization settings by a user with sufficient permissions. This gives every organization control over which jurisdictions and legal materials are available to its users, so teams can activate only what they need for their legal work.

Bring Your Own Legal Infrastructure
Stoa 2.0.0 also gives organizations more flexibility by allowing them to add their own MCP servers and make them available to their users.
This means organizations can connect Stoa to their own internal tools, legal databases, workflows, and knowledge systems, while keeping access managed at the organization level.
A Real-Time Collaborative Editor
Stoa 2.0.0 introduces a real-time collaborative editor built for legal work, with 1:1 compatibility at the heart of the editing experience.
Multiple team members can work in the same document at the same time and see one another's changes as they happen. Everyone stays aligned around a single shared version, reducing duplicate files, manual handoffs, and the uncertainty of wondering which draft is the latest.
The editor brings drafting and review into the same Stoa workspace as research, legal sources, and workflows. Its 1:1 compatibility also extends across the rest of the app, including workflows, so teams can move from analysis to drafting, review, and refinement together without losing context or changing how they work.
New Workflow: Comparison
The new Comparison workflow helps users compare documents, clauses, versions, or legal materials more quickly and more consistently.
Instead of manually reading two documents side by side, users can ask Stoa to identify meaningful differences, highlight changes, and surface the points that matter for legal review.
New Workflow: Translate
The new Translate workflow helps legal teams translate legal content while preserving context, structure, and terminology.
It is designed for legal work where wording matters: contracts, clauses, correspondence, internal notes, and cross-border research. The goal is to make translation faster while keeping the user in control of the final legal language.
